Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.          **Sing a song to praise the Lord

     Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
     “Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
     "Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

           "Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
             Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
             Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passage:

A prophecy concerning Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
    the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
    and vents his wrath against his enemies.

The Lord is slow to anger but great in power;
    the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,
    and clouds are the dust of his feet.

He rebukes the sea and dries it up;
    he makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and Carmel wither
    and the blossoms of Lebanon fade.

The mountains quake before him
    and the hills melt away.
The earth trembles at his presence,
    the world and all who live in it.

Who can withstand his indignation?
    Who can endure his fierce anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire;
    the rocks are shattered before him.

The Lord is good,
    a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,

but with an overwhelming flood
he will make an end of Nineveh;
    he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.

Whatever they plot against the Lord
    he will bring[a] to an end;
    trouble will not come a second time.

They will be entangled among thorns
    and drunk from their wine;
    they will be consumed like dry stubble.[b]

From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
    who plots evil against the Lord
    and devises wicked plans.

This is what the Lord says:

“Although they have allies and are numerous,

 they will be destroyed and pass away.

Although I have afflicted you, Judah,

 I will afflict you no more.

Now I will break their yoke from your neck
    and tear your shackles away.”

                              Nahum 1:1-13

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus is:  Are you seeking to be invincible?

Nahum was written between 663 - 612 B.C. predicting the downfall of Assyria's capital city, Nineveh.  Nineveh had once repented of its extreme wickedness and turned to God for mercy in response to Jonah's preaching more than 100 years earlier.  However, the people had returned to their false gods and reverted to their cruelty and oppressive practices.

The Assyrians had already conquered the northern kingdom of Israel and were now raiding and robbing parts of Judah. The Assyrians thought that Nineveh was invincible but they did not know that no power on earth can protect a nation that has made God its enemy and whom God has determined to oppose.

Nahum comforts God's people by telling them that God would defend them and destroy the Assyrians. Nineveh's fall occurred in 612 B.C., when it was conquered by a coalition of the Babylonians, Medes and Scythians. Nineveh was completely destroyed after about eight years of Nahum's prophecy. This once great and powerful city became a deserted and desolate area for animals and birds.

This book tells us that God is extremely patient because he wants to give sinners time to repent.  However, there is a limit to his kindness and patience, those who persist in going their own way will eventually encounter his justified anger and judgment.

What I received from Jesus today is a question of our life purpose. There are so many people on earth seeking to be invincible. This capital of Assyria used to be a invincible city, but you know how it became.

Watch out for what you are heading to so that you do not step into the footstep of Nineveh.  And, do not be afraid of those evil people as evil as the Assyrians because God is always in total control.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know that we can never be invincible and that we need to walk humbly with you. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
