12 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying: 13 “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go and tell the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘Will you not learn a lesson and obey my words?’ declares the Lord. 14 ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command. But I have spoken to you again and again,yet you have not obeyed me. 15 Again and again I sent all my servants the prophets to you. They said, “Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and reform your actions; do not follow other gods to serve them. Then you will live in the land I have given to you and your ancestors.” But you have not paid attention or listened to me. 16 The descendants of Jehonadab son of Rekab have carried out the command their forefather gave them, but these people have not obeyed me.’

17 “Therefore this is what the Lord God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Listen! I am going to bring on Judah and on everyone living in Jerusalem every disaster I pronounced against them. I spoke to them, but they did not listen; I called to them, but they did not answer.’”

18 Then Jeremiah said to the family of the Rekabites, “This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘You have obeyed the command of your forefather Jehonadab and have followed all his instructions and have done everything he ordered.’ 19 Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jehonadab son of Rekab will never fail to have a descendant to serve me.’”

Jeremiah 35:12-19

                     

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

    

The topic I received today from Jesus is: They obeyed their forefather's command, but you have not obey me!

God commanded Jeremiah to tell the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem using an example of Jehonadab's descendants obeyed their forefather Jehonadab's command not drinking wine.

God said those descendants of Jehonadab could be so obedient to a man but those people of Judah did not obey God. 

The consequence of not obeying God's command is that God will bring every disaster He pronounced against those people.

The fruit of obeying Jehonadab, their forefather's command is that Jehonadab will never fail to have a descendant to serve God!

Is it so difficult to listen and obey to God's command?

What is your choice today?

To bear the consequences of not listen to God's command and be in all kinds of disasters, or you and your descendants will be able to serve God.

Jesus reminded me a minute ago of my mother who had an every Wednesday fasting for her three children for more than thirty years. The fruit is all her three children Silas, Ada and Dennis become pastors, and her grandson Ignatius becomes pastor too. The photo above was taken on Mother's Day, May 11 2025 with my mother and my sister Ada in their home in Hong Kong, Michelle took this photo. This Saturday will be my mother's funeral. I went back to Hong Kong to be with my mother for six days month ago. She passed away at her home peacefully after 98 years of fruitful life, seven days after I went back to Vancouver. 

Mom, I love you, thank you!

Also, Jesus reminded me the Mission Statement of our church, Richmond Emmanuel Church:

We exist to make Christlike disciples from generation to generation who

have a daily relationship with the Father and are empowered by the Spirit

to bless all peoples.

Yes, that's how we, people of Richmond Emmanuel Church are willing to listen and obey that we will be blessed by God with Christlike disciples from generation to generation!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help us to listen and obey to you solely and are certain it is you who call us.  In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
