Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.          **Sing a song to praise the Lord

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passages:

Now Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.”

Elijah was afraid[a] and ran for his life. When he came to Beershebain Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.”   Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.

All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.

The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

10 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”

11 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

14 He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.”

15 The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.17 Jehu will put to death any who escape the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death any who escape the sword of Jehu. 18 Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.”
1 Kings 19: 1-18

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
             Romans 12:1-2

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus isHow did Elijah transformed by renewing of his mind?

Jesus asked me a very tough question: What did Elijah really do after a spiritual victory?

What I shared yesterday was what Elijah did right after his spiritual victory. He went up to Mount Carmel to pray. That was so good, right?
But, what Elijah really do after a few hours time was what he really did! Poor Elijah!

This was what Elijah really did (Please compare to my blog yesterday regarding the mistake I used to make):
1. He was very discouraged from not receiving the reward from the king; and the queen wanted to kill him.
2. He forgot to pray but ran because God did not 'beamed him out' (rescued him) like the first time.(18: 12)
3. He experienced a severe burn-out. Maybe it was because of his pride using the power in him to run like "Superman"! (18: 46)
4. He crashed and wanted to quit, asking God to take his life! (19: 4)

How did God gave him renewal to stand up again and to fight for the Lord?
1. He rested and ate. An angel came helped him two times. (19: 5 - 8)
2. He traveled 40 days according to God's instruction, direction and destination. Similar to our 40 days of fasting during Lent. (19: 8)
3. God opened his eyes to see what's wrong with him. (19: 9 - 14)
4. God gave him fresh anointing so that he could anoint two kings! (19: 15 - 16)
5. God gave him a helper and successor Elisha so that he could finish well. (19: 16)
6. God gave him security so that not only would he not be killed but his line of disciples would not be cut off. (19: 17)
7. God told him that he was not the only one left but rather that God reserved seven thousand to encourage him that he would not be alone. (19: 18)

What I received today from Jesus is that, this is a classic example of what Paul says in Romans 12:1-2
"Transformed by the renewing of your mind"! That's how God led Elijah to go through this process of renewal! Praise the Lord!

Have you been faced with similar kinds of discouragement, making you close to almost quitting?

How could Elijah's experience help you not to fall into Satan's trap of "quitting" next time?
How could you use this example to help someone around you not to quit but be filled with the Holy Spirit and being renewed?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for the immense encouragement to help me focus on you and follow your guidance. Help me to stay on your path with you so that I won't step into the trap of the spirit of discouragement again. In Jesus name I pray . Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
