1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:

Key passage:  

    1 all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. They told Ezra the teacher of the Law to bring out the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded for Israel.

2 So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. 3 He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.

4 Ezra the teacher of the Law stood on a high wooden platform built for the occasion. Beside him on his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah and Maaseiah; and on his left were Pedaiah, Mishael, Malkijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah and Meshullam.

5 Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. 6 Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.

7 The Levites—Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan and Pelaiah—instructed the people in the Law while the people were standing there. 8 They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear[a] and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read.

9 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

10 Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

                                                         Nehemiah 8:1-10

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through today's TWA passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus is:  The joy of the Lord is your strength!

      

    Let's have some imagination of how the Jews experienced since the first group of people went back to Jerusalem to rebuild God's Temple in 537 BC and then today's Nehemiah chapter 8 is the third group in 445 BC. Wow! Waited for 92 years until they could celebrate the feast of Tabernacles! 

      Can you feel that extremely powerful joy those Jews experienced when they worshipped God in the newly built Temple. I do not think we understand that kind of joy but at least we may know how to cherish what we need to cherish. Because there are still quite a number of Christians choose to worship online!

      Let's not take it for granted that we can sing joyfully worshipping God in our church! We did not have that chance when COVID came to capture all Christians for almost a year or more.

     I sincerely hope and pray that we can have that joy in a month's time when we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Richmond Emmanuel Church on September 13 Sunday 10am at the big banquet hall of Radisson Hotel(The building next to our church). We have the honour of the presence of Archbishop Titus Chung, his wife Connie and Archbishop Melter Tais in this important celebration. Archbishop Titus will be the preacher and the title of his sermon is "Reflecting on 'the sermon on the Mount'".

      Archbishop Titus is the Primate and Archbishop of the Anglican Province of South East Asia and the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Singapore. Archbishop Melter is the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sabah and previous Primate and Archbishop of the Anglican Province of South East Asia.

     Dear Lord Jesus,  

     Lead more of your children back to their own churches to worship you that they can experience that joy of your presence in your Temple. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:    

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
