Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passages:

37  Lord, see how my enemies persecute me!
Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,
14
that I may declare your praises in the gates of Daughter Zion,
and there rejoice in your salvation.
                                                                          Psalm 9:13-14

23 Taking his relatives with him, he pursued Jacob for seven days and caught up with him in the hill country of Gilead. 24 Then God came to Laban the Aramean in a dream at night and said to him, “Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.”
25 Jacob had pitched his tent in the hill country of Gilead when Laban overtook him, and Laban and his relatives camped there too.

29 I have the power to harm you; but last night the God of your father said to me, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’

42 If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, you would surely have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen my hardship and the toil of my hands, and last night he rebuked you.

                                                    Genesis 31:23-25, 29, 42

28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care.[a]30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
                                                                  Matthew 10:28-31

 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.                       Proverbs 3:16-18

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through today's passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus is:  O You who lift me up from the gates of death!

How important it is to you of today's Psalm 9:13 "O you who lift me up from the gates of death!"?

Have you been lifted up from the gates of death?

If you have experienced being saved from the gates of death, do you have a new attitude to care for other people and things? Do you have a new relationship with the Lord that you always long to be with Him?

Today's Genesis 31:24,29,42 tells us that God really would act like what it is described in today's Psalm. He listened to the cry of His children and He will act! "Those who kill will be killed"!

God warned Laban not to harm Jacob! God sent many angels to encamp around Jacob to help him and protect him!

A Bible commentary says about today's Matthew 10:28-31:
"We are to reserve our fear for God, the One in charge of life and death. We should also be encouraged because, even when facing persecution and death, our souls are ultimately in God’s hands."

Yes, only the One who is in charge of life and death is the only One we need to fear, not death!

Just as today's Proverbs 3:16-18 gives us God's promise to those who hold the Holy Spirit fast will be blessed with long life, peace and prosperity.

So, why fear death and many other things disturbing you?

How many times did you experience God saving act to lift you up from the gates of death?

Do you believe the promise God gives you now?

I will be with you, no one can harm you!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to be very sure that nothing can harm me because I know you, be with you and rely on you everyday. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
