Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.          **Sing a song to praise the Lord

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passage:

Then the angel who talked with me returned and woke me up, like someone awakened from sleep. He asked me, “What do you see?”

I answered, “I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lamps on it, with seven channels to the lamps. Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.”

I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?”

He answered, “Do you not know what these are?”

“No, my lord,” I replied.

So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.

“What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”

                                                      Zechariah 4:1-7

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus is:  You can't do it, but I can!

After Joshua received the spiritual authority from God ready to do the job of a high priest, here in Chapter 4 God started to lay out his plan for him to do God's job.

First, an olive oil lampstand with seven lights that the oil flowed from the bowl through the seven channels to the lights to keep the lamps full and burning symbolized God's endless and unlimited power through the Holy spirit.  The multiple lamps represent God's people spreading his light to the world because of the abundant flow of the Holy Spirit's power in their lives.

The two olive trees represent the royal and priestly ministries of Zerubbabel, the governor, and Joshua, the high priest who were anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth.

With that preparation from God, they could experience the power of the Holy Spirit to complete God's work to build God's temple after 16 years of delay.

Are you waiting for the power of God to do something? Do you know what you need to do now?

What I got from Jesus today is: You can't do it, but I can!
What I received from Jesus today is a reminder of how limited we are as human beings. Does that means we don't need to do anything but just wait for God to act? Not at all!

What we need to do is to have the message from Chapter 3 that we need to go back to the root of spiritual authority, Jesus Christ our Lord. To put down our filthy clothes so that we can live in holiness. We need to be as close as possible to the Word of God so that we can do God's Kingdom work. Then we will be anointed just like how God anointed Joshua and Zerubbabel, receiving the unlimited source of power from the Holy Spirit. Then,
WOW!

You will see how great God is that you can do things you can never think of!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know that we cannot but you can. Prepare our lives to be willing for your work to begin and complete.  In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
