Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passages:

But Hezekiah's heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord's wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem. Then Hezekiah repented of the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem; therefore the Lord's wrath did not come upon them during the days of Hezekiah.
2 Chronicles 32:24-26

But when envoys were sent by the rulers of Babylon to ask him about the miraculous sign that had occurred in the land, God left him to test him and to know everything that was in his heart.

2 Chronicles 32:31

Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: The time will surely come when everything in your palace, and all that your predecessors have stored up until this day, will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the Lord. And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood who will be born to you, will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” “The word of the Lord you have spoken is good,” Hezekiah replied. For he thought, “Will there not be peace and security in my lifetime?”   As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool and the tunnel by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? Hezekiah rested with his ancestors. And Manasseh his son succeeded him as king.                                                2 Kings 20:16-21

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus is: Don't forget your Kingdom password!

There was one time I forgot my password of my laptop and I could not access anything for a day and I was so frustrated. Here, King Hezekiah forgot his password to unlock the Kingdom authority and fell into the trap of PRIDE in 2 Chronicles 23:24-26 . He and his people almost being punished severely by God if he did not repent!

Then, in 2 Chronicles 32:31 and 2 Kings 20:16-19, he fell in another time into the trap of PRIDE and also SELF-CENTERNESS, and 2 Kings 20:16-21 recorded he died! No more chance!

What was his password to unlock the Kingdom authority: consecrating, worshipping, offering.
1. Consecrating: God taught and commanded them to consecrate themselves in 2 Chronicles Chapter 29.
2. Worshiping: They worshipped with joy and power like never before in 2 Chronicles Chapter 30.
3. Offering: They offered everything they could, like never before in chapter 31.

With this password King Hezeki unlocked the Kingdom authority that he, his people and his nation prospered.(31: 21) He passed the most severe test in this chapter when the vast Assyria army wanted to destroy his whole nation because he and prophet Isaiah cried out in prayer to heaven (32: 20).

Wow, the power of prayers is always beyond our imagination. Just one angel went out and 185,000 Assyrian soldiers died and one day later Sennacherib king of Assyria was being killed! (2 Kings 19: 36)

King Hezekiah even could asked the Lord for 15 more years of his fatal sickness and the clock to go back ten hours and it happened! Some scientists said they found that this really happened as a one time event in human history at that time. The whole movement of solar system being changed! Can you believe that?

But, after all this he could not pass the test code name: PRIDE! Because he forgot the password God gave him! He did not consecrate himself, he worshipped the king of Babylon rather than the Lord and he offered his treasures to the king of Babylon rather than the Lord!

Hope you can remember this password to consecrate yourself, to worship and enjoy worshipping the Lord  and to increase your offerings to the Lord  that the power of His Kingdom is unlocked to bring blessings to many people!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us not to forget the Kingdom password. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
