Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.          **Sing a song to praise the Lord

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passages:

The angel of the Lord said to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid of him." So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.            2
Kings 1: 15

But Elisha said, "As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you." So they went down to Bethel.     2 Kings 2:2

The company of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching , said, "The spirit of Elijah is resting on Elisha." And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.
     2
Kings 2: 15

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus isWho pass the baton to you?

      Don't be "chickened"!

Can you believe that even Elijah was 'chickened'? Yes, he was. That was why the angel told him to go to see the king and do not be afraid of him.

If even Elijah needed an angel to send fire from heaven two times to consume those soldiers before he had faith to tell the king what he got to tell, then it's OK for us to be 'chickened'!

But, don't take it for granted that you can be always chickened and not stand up to do the things God wants you to. Think about this chapter in another angle. God will provide enough protection and power to you before He asks you to do something. He knows that you are a human being and He will provide you with everything to do His job.

If you are not 'chickened', then you can receive the baton from your coach, your spiritual father, your mentor to continue God's Kingdom ministry!

I see two stages of coaching here in this chapter:
1. Follow your coach closely - See how closely Elisha followed Elijah. That showed a teachable spirit and an intimate relationship.

2. Passing the baton to suitable leaders - See how Elijah passed the baton to Elisha so that he was recognized to be Elijah's successor(2: 15)

I see coaching as the passing of baton in a relay. I was in the 400 relay team when I was in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. See the photo above of how I dashed through the red line when I was teaching in a high school in Hong Kong running in the Sport Day competing with the students. I was in the teachers team.

We need someone to pass the baton to us and we need to pass the baton to other people because we are running a "spiritual race" for His Kingdom.

Do you have a coach so that you can receive the baton? Are you willing to coach other so that you can pass the baton?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Open my eyes to see your protection and power. Help me to be a courageous leader and that I can raise up more courageous leaders and to be able to pass the baton to them. In Jesus name I pray . Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
