From worshipping "me" to worshipping God

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence

      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:

     “Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

     "Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

     Now Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, put himself forward and said, "I will be king."  So he got chariots and horses[a] ready, with fifty men to run ahead of him.   

                                     1 Kings 1: 5

       Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.    

     The topic I received today from Jesus is: From worshipping "me" to worshipping God

!!   What Jesus told me today saddened me. He reminded me of David's problem in the last chapter of 2 Samuel 24. The problem for David having the census was just like what Adonijah did in today's chapter: put himself forward. David felt good of having 1,300,000 able-bodied men. The chapter ended with David repenting and building an altar to worship God. 

Jesus reminded me of what Jan David Hettinga said in his book 'Follow me': "In killing Jesus the CEO of heaven, we demonstrated for all time the actual root-cause of the break with God's kingdom. In assassinating the heir to the throne, we exposed our agenda of self-enthronement."

Yes, self-enthronement was Adonijah's problem. But, it was also his father David's problem for when he was well off, then he wanted to "put himself forward" for people to worship his success rather than honoring God and worshipping God. That's why God punished him in such a hard way to make him humble. Like father like son, his sons had the same problem of self-enthronement. 

Do you aware that you have this problem too?  

If you are a human being, then you have the same problem! 

Only Jesus can help you, no one else can!

Dear Lord Jesus,

Help me to get away from the darkness of self-enthronement so that you are the only one I worship daily. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:    

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

     2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
