Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.          **Sing a song to praise the Lord

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passages:

"For rebellion is like the sins of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has rejected you as king."  1 Samuel 15: 23

But Samuel said, "How can I go? Saul will hear about it and kill me." The Lord said, "Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.' Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do. You are to anoint for me the one I indicate." Samuel did what the Lord said.       1 Samuel 16: 2-4

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus isThe Lord gives the best strategy!

!     The consequence of listening but not obeying is far more serious than we can think of. God raised up Saul from a nobody to became a king! Why did God name Saul as practicing "rebellion" and "arrogance"?

Very simple, "rebellion" means you listen to nobody and "arrogance" means that you think your way is the best and no one is better than you.

Saul worshipped himself as god!

Let's not fall into this trap of "Pride" and "Arrogance", for God rejected Saul and He also will reject those who do the same thing.

You are not able in your own strength to practice the discipline of "listen and obey". Ask the Lord each day that you can listen and obey to Him and He will raise you from "nobody" to His faithful disciple and a great leader!

Just a chapter after telling us the pride and arrogance of God. 1 Samuel 16 tells us a totally opposite scene. A leader totally opposite from Saul!

Can you see the wonderful intimate relationship with God and Samuel? This chapter shows that God knew Samuel's heart of sorrow, gave comfort, direction, strategy, instructions and many "NO"s and one "YES". Can you have such intimate relationship with the Lord? Yes, why not.

How sad it was for Saul that he should have the same or similar intimate personal relationship with God but he did not understand it! We are always running here and there to find comfort, direction, strategy and instructions but so often do not come to Jesus first. What a waste!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thanks for your presence and your intimate relationship with me all these years. Help me to seek for your comfort, direction, strategy, instructions and especially your YES and NO. I really need that. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

    2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
