Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
      2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

     Praise and Thanksgiving
1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile.
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.          **Sing a song to praise the Lord

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passage:

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”12 As she kept on praying to the Lord, Eli observed her mouth.13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.”15 “Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”17 Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”18 She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the Lord and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah made love to his wife Hannah, and the Lord remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel,[b] saying, “Because I asked the Lord for him.”       1 Samuel 1: 10-20

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus isAsk and it will be given to you!

Hannah prayed and she had a son Samuel!

      Jesus says,

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."            Matthew 7:7-8

Many Christians have experienced that what Hannah experienced and what Jesus says is true. But, there are a lot of Christians prayed, nothing happened and they thinks that it is not true. Well, sometimes I prayed but it has not happened, or did not happened. Then, if I know what I have been praying is not greedy and should be in God's standard, I will keep on praying and wait.

Well, if you pray and Jesus has not given what you ask, then you need to trust Him totally, may be you have a relational problem with Jesus that He is not your Lord, or you sits on His throne, or that's not the thing Jesus prepares for you, not suitable...

Michelle and I married on July 13, 1985. Ignatius was born on October 25, 1988. For more than two years we did not have a baby.  Michelle and I finally decided to pray, asking God whether we should have a son 38 years ago. When we prayed together, in less than two months time we decided it was God's plan that we needed a son, then we knelt down and prayed before we went to bed that night. Michelle got Ignatius that night!

Similar situation happened 7 1/2 years later! We forgot to pray whether we needed our second child. We prayed and then Michelle had Athanasius!

Were that two incidents coincidence?
I don't think so. It was just we tried all human wisdom and methods but forgot to pray!

Actually we taught this kind of simple prayer to quite a number of couples who wanted to have a child and for those who followed this simple way to pray, they got their baby.

We know the importance of prayers but we often do not really pray, for sometimes we think it is too simple or too foolish to pray!

After I completed this blog a few minutes ago and ready to write the Chinese one, Jesus asked me to share what happened to my 98 years old mother 71 years ago! She wanted to have a baby but did not have one. She was reading today's 1 Samuel chapter one and she prayed to ask God to give her a son. And, she promised to God that she will give her first baby to God as what Hannah did. You know what happened, all her three children, me, my younger sister Ada, my younger brother Dennis all become pastors, and also my elder son Ignatius becomes a pastor too! Thank you, Lord Jesus for asking me to share this very important message to those who are reading now!

Jesus says, "Ask and it will be given to you."
We don't ask, so God let us use our own wisdom and method.

There are times even you ask you cannot get because God will give you what He prepares. But, if you don't even ask, do you think you can do it alone?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Teach me to be able to pray as often as I can and experience the power of prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

    2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
