Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to shine on you that you are able to discover your sins and be willing to repent:
“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God and having Jesus as my Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:
"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sins to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gifts to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

3.  John Stott's daily prayer of Christlikeness (Christopher J.H. Wright, Cultivating the fruit of the Spirit. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 2017, 13)

"Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your presence and please you more and more.
Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.
Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Key passages:

For the Lord your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you. Your camp must be holy, so that he will not see among you anything indecent and turn away from you.                  Deuteronomy 23: 14

Do not have two differing weights in your bag - one heavy, one light. Do not have two differing measures in your house - one large, one small. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.

     Deuteronomy 25: 13-16

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passages we have just read. Offer this time to Jesus as you listen to Him.

The topic I received today from Jesus isDon't leave me God!

Today Jesus gave me a scene in some movies when the actor was in a devastating situation, "Why? Oh, not me! Don't leave me, God!" Do you think God would leave you in that situation? No! Never!

But Deuteronomy 23:14 clearly states God would leave His people. This is when they are unclean in God's standard. There were some considered to be unclean who could not enter the assembly of God. The uncleanness in the camp could cause God to leave!
We need to know that we have to be "clean" and "holy" so that we are under His protection and He will deliver our enemies to us!

If you do not want God to leave you, then you need to be "clean" and "holy"!

Then, Deuteronomy 25:13-16 tells us another important complain to God and other people.
It is so easy for us to say, "It's not fair!" But, it is so difficult for us to see the unfairness, the judgement and the dishonesty are from us!
Can we admit that we have two differing weights in our bag to cheat people? You might think that it is impossible, we are all honest people, how can we do that?
Lots of time we have two or more system of standards. We like to accuse and judge other people that they have too many systems of standards!
God set out detail rules in the Laws for all Israelites to follow and yet they could make use of many "grey" areas to ignore or cheat. Who are we? Are we any different from those Israelites? I don't think so.

We need to admit that we are human, we have our own pride, selfishness, insecurity. We need Jesus and the daily intimate relationship with Him through the Bible and His presence so that we know what is fair and unfair, and that we can be righteous and faithful disciples of Christ.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be clean and holy so that we can be under your love and protection. Please help us to understand that only in you can we know what is fair and unfair, what is right and wrong and what is holy and filthy. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:

1. What inspiration have you received from today's catch and what have you heard from Jesus now?

    2.  What is your next step to be more closer to Jesus, to be holy - that is to do what Jesus wants you to do and not to do what Jesus wants you not to do?
